Free-Press-Release-Is It Worth It?

I have spent the last two and a half hours reading up on press releases-not because I had nothing better to do, but because press releases are one of the best forms of marketing there is and it’s free, unless you use a paid distribution service like PR Web.

They may have a free service, but PR Web is like a web to navigate. I’m almost certain all their services require you coughing up some cash.

But being the cheapie that I am, I wanted to test out Free Press Release, you know just give it a whirl and see what it was all about.

I don’t know if Free Press Release is owned or connected to PR Web in any way, because some of the language is taken right off PR Web’s site, strangely enough.

Nevertheless, Free Press Release is a far cry from PR Web; the look, the services, the quality of press releases (they’re shown on the home page).

And there’s a multitude of overzealous network marketers over promoting their deal on this site. I think the word “free” brings out all the spammers from miles around. It really cheapens the site and makes it harder for people with legitimate press releases to be taken seriously.

Isn’t anyone monitoring this site?

Well, the service is free, but if you pay $1 (yes, you read that right), you can get the premium service. Actually you get a lot of features for a buck, so I dug into my pocketbook and paid for it.

Here’s the low down of how this all works. To be listed on the home page near the top, you have to bid on certain words hoping you can get a spot amongst all the mlm’ers and other press releases.

The maximum bid at the time was $115! The minimum was $5. I was going to pay to get near the top, but opted to be cheap again and go “free”. Besides, from what I saw of the press releases, they looked mostly like ads and not press releases.

I said, what the heck, I might as well be at the bottom rather than  lumped into the muck at the top with those other “press releases”.

Little did I know that I would be at the bottom surounded by “male” enlargement press releases. I don’t understand why this type of “issue” needs to have a press release written about it.

I had a choice to make: pay more money and get to the top of the page and be with ads badly disguised as press releases or pay nothing and be among the male enhancement “ads.”

I choice the latter  because I figure my press release would stand out (no pun intended) at the bottom, considering my neighboring press releases.

If you have the extra dough, I would say you should stick with PR Web. You can’t go wrong with them, and plus they have free training webinars to help you. Free Press Release can be an alternative if you want to be frugal. I’ll post my results from using them.
