This is NOT MLM: The Lie Many People Are Told

I ran accross this video on YouTube of Daegan Smith. In case you never heard of the man, he has built his network marketing organization using the power of the Internet. He calls himself “the king of never calling a single lead!”
If you ever tried to build your network marketing organization using purchased leads, then you know how challenging it can be. So for him to build a business in this industry without resorting to purchased lead calling, is huge to say the least
In the video he addresses an issue that I see often in this industry-misrepresentation and deception. What’s even worse is that the deception is coming from the top honchos in these network marketing companies. Talk about playing mind games.
There’s nothing wrong with trying to distinguish your company from all the others out there, but there is something wrong when you tell your distributors and potential distributors that “this is NOT MLM” when clearly it is. Lying to the people who you are supposed to be helping is not a good sign, especially if you’re running the company. Lack of trust and ethics come to mind.
Well, it gets worse because these same brainwashed distributors go on touting that they’re not mlm, when clearly they are; they look like complete fools who’ve been had.
No one likes to be made a fool of, but some companies, especially these pre-launch and ground floor opportunities will do and say anything to get more of your money in their pocket-even if it means taking advantage of decent hard-working people who just don’t know any better-or maybe they do, but they like going along with “the lie.”
So, what exactly is MLM? The meaning and definition has changed slightly over the years, but one fact stays true; if you are paid on multiple levels i.e. you get paid on the efforts of multiple people on your team, then you are in mlm. Sorry to be the barer of bad news if you’re one of the ones that has been had by your company.
Amway and other such companies have given mlm a bad name, although it’s the scams and schemes some companies pull that really most people associate with the term “mlm.”
Anyway, most companies rather use the term “network marketing” instead of mlm and that’s ok; however there are companies that despise that term too! Oh, well. I say be upfront and honest, rather than be deceptive and sneaky.
For the most part, multi level marketing is a really a lucrative business model, if you know what you’re doing. Sadly, most people don’t.
