Marketing is the act of making change happen. Making is insufficient. You haven’t made an impact until you’ve changed someone.

The first step on the path to make things better is to make better things.

And in my humble opinion (yeah, I got plenty of those!), in order to make better things, it takes leadership, guts and the ability to NOT follow the herd..

To be different…

To be uncanny…

And sometimes be the outcast wearing red polka-dotted socks whereas everyone else is wearing no socks at all.

Courage

It’s easy to sit in front of a computer and complain about how the Internet is full of scams and nothing works and laugh and poke fun at people who are at least trying to make it.

In the words of Brene Brown, you can’t sit in the “cheap” seats and throw stones at the people who have stepped into the arena.

If you don’t like what you’re seeing online, in your business, on the Internet – do something about it.

In the words of Mahatma Gandhi (yep I’m full of quotes today!), “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

Here are some important questions to ask yourself:

1. What type of business would you be proud to create?

2. What are you trying to improve upon?

3. What is your philosophy?

4. What thought leaders do you follow?

5. What is your why? More on that later…

Another quote from Seth Godin…
“In a crowded marketplace, fitting in is a failure. In a busy marketplace, not standing out is the same as being invisible.”

Those questions above are very important because it will help define who you are as a business person to yourself and those you seek to serve. You don’t want to be just like everybody else.

This is why I have always marched to the beat of a different drum and seeked out and learned from “heroes” and thought leaders who have zagged where as the masses have zigged…

The Past, The Present, The Future

I’m a former foster mom of three who was literally on the brink of disaster…

You see, I went from being a foster mom to three beautiful kids, a brand spankin’ new home and a safe *secure* factory job to…

Not knowing how I was going to keep a roof over my head and whether or not I would be able to keep my kids….all because I got laid off from my safe *secure* job-without warning.

I had a part-time business which I treated much like a hobby – so you can say I really had NO “Plan B” to speak of.

Tip #1 – Treat your business like a business – no matter if you’re working in your faded PJs out of your bedroom or you’re working out of an office in the middle of Manhattan. A business is a business no matter where you choose to do it from.

So here I was with no real Plan B and no real skills to make my Plan B really successful – online. I was primarily doing belly-to-belly marketing and just dabbled on the Internet.

Tip #2 – Don’t be a dabbler. Dabbling eats up your time, your focus, and your precious resources. Either commit or do something else. Dabble in a hobby – not in your business.

In a nutshell, I lacked some essential things to take my business to the next level – in which I’ll get into later.

Needless to say, I rescued myself and my family from certain failure. And I did it by doing side “hustles” – which at the time wasn’t talked too much about. It paid the bills, kept my family fed, and kept a roof over our heads.

Side Note: If you’re in the same financial situation right now that I was in back then, know that there are tons of ways to make money from home outside of a business. Eventually I will be creating a couple of programs that address side “hustles” but for now, the goal of this site and my intentions are to help those in the online business realm. Until, then I suggest you use Google to lead you to side hustles or gigs you can do from home.

So, life was good, until I wanted more…

The Internet fascinated me. There were people who said they were making money online but I wasn’t too sure if it was real until I attended a seminar in San Diego put on by the late great Internet marketer Corey Rudl.

As it turns out it was one of the last seminars he did before his untimely death in a racing accident. 

The seminar left a huge impact on me because for the first time I REALLY believed it was possible to build a highly profitable business on the Internet. I felt Corey’s passion, belief, and enthusiasm for Internet marketing.

I was sold.

And it was on.

But I wasn’t quite ready because I struggled. I struggled to really grasp the “marketing” side of Internet marketing.

Not to mention, when I went to Corey’s seminar I didn’t buy a single solitary thing. Big mistake. The free information was enough to wet my whistle so to speak, but it wasn’t enough for me to get me on the path I needed to be on.

Tip #3 – You must invest in your education. An MBA costs on average about $40k+ per year. When you buy courses on Internet marketing and training programs on various online businesses it just cost a fraction of that cost. 

The cost of not investing in myself and my business earlier on was a lot of wasted time and a boatload of frustration. I was so frustrated at times, that I would just lay in bed and cry.

What’s wrong with me?!

Why can’t I get this?!

In reality, the solution was a lot closer than I thought.

What I didn’t know at the time, was that mylack of knowledge and my lack of skills was keeping me broke and frustrated.

The truth of the matter is that if you can’t market effectively it doesn’t really matter what business you do because you’re gonna, for lack of a better word, suck at it.

It’s more than placing ads all over the Internet and “friending” every friendly face on Facebook.

It’s deeper than that – way deeper.

I wish I could get back all the frustration and time wasted because I didn’t know this simple fact…

When It Finally Clicked…

After joining various programs on the Internet and working with specific “gurus”, I finally started to make money. The more marketing I did online, the better I got.

Tip #4 – The only way to get better at marketing is to roll up your sleeves and go to work. You have to put in the effort, notice if it’s working or not, and then repeat and scale up what’s working or tweak or dump what’s not working.

Over the years I have been in several different niches and industries and unlike most people, have made money in nearly most of them…

From person-to-person selling to selling on ebay and Amazon…

From selling lingerie, “club” wear clothes and “passion party” goodies to selling travel and being in the network marketing and paid surveys (hidden gem) niches to being an Internet marketing consultant  – and else in between.

I’ve been there – and made money in niches THEY said didn’t work. But I found the way.

I have gotten traffic and got high rankings in the search engines – and done other things THEY said couldn’t be done. But I found the way.

This isn’t about finding the “loopholes” …it’s about being driven, persistent, and consistent.

Those are the three qualities you ABSOLUTELY must have if you want success in anything – especially in business.

If you ain’t got them qualities – get them (getting CLEARER on your why will help).

If you’re not willing to at the very least know precisely the reason why you must be in business, then you shouldn’t be in business. 

You’re just gonna invite a LOT of frustration and struggle into your life  – and maybe go broke in the process. If you don’t know your why, find a compelling why or just go home.

Not ‘bout to beat around the bush here. 

It’s true – not knowing your why and/or not having a good reason why you want to be in business is probably the top reason why people struggle in their home business. 

You see, your “why” is the fuel that is going to drive your business – especially during the times you feel like giving up (oh yeah, there will be times like those – business is not all peaches and cream!).

What’s Your Story?

Having worked with a lot of people I can tell you that most people fall into two main categories:

1. Don’t Know Enough – You may fall into this category if you’re new to Internet marketing or new to business in general.

2. Information Overload – You may fall into this category if you know a lot about different kinds of marketing techniques and/or been exposed to various types of businesses – so much that it stifles you into inaction because you’re not sure where to start or what to do.

Let’s be real. 

If you fall into either of those categories you probably aren’t making the kind of money you want to make and you’re not too happy about that.

Know that it’s not your fault – it’s impossible to know what to fix, when you’re not even sure what’s broken.

Also, the Internet is littered with so much *JUNK*, so much deception, so much stuff to take you off focus that it’s nearly impossible to waddle in the knee deep *JUNK* to get to what’s real.
